How to differentiate them all?





Many beers exist on the market, but how do they differentiate from each other?

First of all there are different Beers’ tastes that can be classified by:


Color:

STOUT (Guiness, Lion)
Taste: Bitter, Rich

DARK ALE (Hockley, Dark rain)

Taste: Bitter, Sweet, Rich

GOLDEN ALE (Redds, Duvel)

Taste: Astringent, Bitter, Sweet

WHEAT BEER (Blue Moon, Bud Light Weat)

Taste: Carbonation

PILSENER (Oskar Blues, Pilsner)

Taste: Bitter

LAGER (Heinekein, 1664, Tiger)
Taste: Bitter, Sweet


Strength:

Beers are also classified in pourcentage of alcool (here are few brands):
Carlsberg Light: 2.4%
Amstel light: 3.5%
Budweiser 66: 4.0%
Heineken: 5.4%
1664: 5.5%
Leffe Blonde: 6.6%
Abbey Ale: 8.0%
Imperial Stout: 9.0%
Expedition Stout: 10.0%

Bitterness:

The International Bittering Units scale, or simply IBU scale, provides a measure of the bitterness of beer. The bittering effect is less noticeable in beers with a high quantity of malt, so a higher IBU is needed in heavier beers to balance the flavor. For example, an Imperial Stout may have an IBU of 50, but will taste less bitter than an English Bitter with an IBU of 30, because the latter beer uses much less malt than the former. The technical limit for IBU's is around 100; some have tried to surpass this number, but there is no real gauge after 100 IBUs when it comes to taste threshold. Light lagers without much bitterness will generally have 5 IBUs, while an India Pale Ale may have 100 IBUs or more.


Beers’ Container:

Also, depending on Brands, beers will be sold in different containers. Basically, we’ll find mainly 3 different containers for beers in France:
-Cans (330ml),
-Bottle (250ml, 330ml, 500ml, 750ml, 1L),
-Beer kegs (5L, 6L).
